Penn State recruits speak out on pending NCAA penalties

As the NCAA prepares to hit Penn State with ?corrective and punitive measures? this morning, recruits are keeping their ears open.

Two of Penn State?s best commits, Adam Breneman and Christian Hackenberg, have been saying similar things. Both conveyed Sunday that it would take something very major for them to consider other options.

?As long as there?s football at Penn State, I?ll be there,? Hackenberg said. ?Whether we have a bowl ban or a scholarship ban, I?ll try to be that leader and that guy that?ll push through. But, you know, I?d say the death penalty, I?d have to start thinking a little bit. I told Coach [Bill] O?Brien that, I?ve been open with everyone about that. But as long as there?s football, I?ll be at Penn State.?

Like his buddy Hackenberg, Breneman?s sentiment has been the same for a while, and he reiterated that through a text message on Sunday.

?All I?m going to say right now is that it?s gonna take a lot to get me to not go to Penn State,? Breneman wrote.

Both commits are major pieces of Penn State?s Class of 2013. Hackenberg, the first member to commit to Penn State from the Class of 2013, has four-star ratings from many major recruiting websites. He is the No. 16 overall Class of 2013 player according to the ESPN 150 and the No. 1 quarterback in the nation.

Meanwhile, although Breneman is nursing a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, he still clocks in at No. 49 on ESPN?s rankings and has earned four-star and five-star rankings from the recruiting websites.

Both have been vocal supporters of Penn State in interviews and on Twitter, and have remained very supportive of their future school.

?It?s tough to be in my situation,? Hackenberg said. ?It?s tough to be in any of our situations right now. I?m staying true and doing as good as I can, you know, I?m still talking with Coach O?Brien, so it?s been all right. Talking to those guys has been reassuring.?

Meanwhile, Philadelphia running back Dave Williams has not decided where he will attend college yet, but he has said Penn State is a consideration.

However, he has over 20 offers according to his player page on Rivals.com, and he said if Penn State gets sanctions like a death penalty, he?d have rule out attending the school.

If the sanctions are bowl bans or television restrictions, he said he?d have to see how bad they were, saying ?it depends.?
